Yvonne Wairimu, in house mixologist for Pernod Ricard East Africa, is the only woman in Kenya to be selected for the Tales of the Cocktail® 2017 in New Orleans.
Founded in 2002, Tales of the Cocktail has grown from a small gathering of cocktail lovers into the world’s premier cocktail festival. Each year the international spirits industry is welcomed to New Orleans for a week of seminars, tastings, networking events and much more.
Yvonne joins Ghana's Patience Atswei Laryea, and together, they are the ONLY two women to be selected to represent the WHOLE of Africa in the prestigious apprenticeship program. Developed in 2008, the Cocktail Apprentice Program offers skilled bartenders the chance to work alongside industry veterans in the high-volume environment at Tales of the Cocktail.
Sponsored by Pernod Ricard, this program gives 40 accomplished and up-and-coming bartenders the opportunity to learn alongside some of the world’s most respected bartenders and cocktail experts as they work the seminars and large-scale events at Tales.
Apprentices were selected from a
highly competitive pool of applicants based on recipe submissions, teamwork
skills, and their level of experience within the industry. We couldn't be more proud of Yvonne!
We wish her all the best as she flies the Kenyan flag high in New Orleans this July.
